Käinas algab 21. Hiiumaa Karikas

Käesoleva nädala lõpus võisteldakse Hiiumaal Käinas taaskord Eesti suurimal kardivõistlusel Hiiumaa Karikal. Tegemist on juba 21. sellise võistlusega.

Plans for extending the tourism season in Hiiumaa and increasing the number of foreign tourists have been finalised through the joint efforts of active sportsmen and Käina Rural Municipality, supported by Hiiu County Government.

We intend to use the existing cart circuit, which was built in 1992, and upgrade it into a cart sports complex to meets the requirements established for FIA title competitions, which would bring both European championships and international top ranking events to Hiiumaa. Käina Rural Municipality, Raigo Merilaht and Heikki Hõbemägi established the NGO Käina Kardirada (Käina Kart Circuit) for the purpose of implementing the plans. The established NGO will be expected to run the complex on a daily basis, apart from working with development issues.

The designed complex will allow for the hosting of car and motor competitions, apart from kart events of all levels. This will particularly involve auto and rally sprint and trial races, super moto and motorbike speedway races, and model sport races. And all of these events can be held at the level of Nordic championship, as a minimum. Our foreign visitors will mostly be the participants of various events, their trainers and mechanics, team members, spectators. And, of course, various people and amateurs who also want to try out the track using either a hobby or competition kart. People attending training camps will be added in the spring and autumn.

In 2012, kart sport will celebrate its 5th anniversary in Estonia. A new circuit would be a worthy present to the Estonian kart sport!

But we won’t be waiting for the completion of the new circuit with idle hands, as we will be extending the range of services available from the circuit today. In 2011, racing camps for beginners and advanced racers will be offered in Käina. Those who have proven themselves in amateur racing will be given a unique opportunity in Estonia of driving a professional kart! Competitions and company events, etc. will also be organised for groups.

A racing team will enter the kart racing battle under the new name of Käina kart circuit, KARTDAGÖ. We’ll be the first Estonian team to participate in CIK-FIA series events, competing with the world’s highest-ranking competitors. Our brave team, led by Marko Asmer, have successfully participated in this series, but they’ve all competed in the ranks of foreign teams. We’ve paired up with the crème de la crème of the kart world, Italian kart manufacturer Birel and engine manufacturer BMB, to achieve success. Together, we’re ready to meet the challenge!

Meet you at and on the track!
